Umm... there's a difference between avoiding defeat and prolonging it.
To avoid defeat, the first step is to be very certain that the goals and rationale for a war are concrete and objective respectively.
Regarding the disgusting War of Terror - the shill media has, in large part, been willfully duped for the last 8 years, why would anybody, including Adolf Harper listen to what you have to say on the matter now?
As long as you try to pretend this war was about catching a former western intelligence asset in the caves of Afghanistan, everything that follows is tainted and useless.
