The truth about exports?
Alec Bruce - The Bruce Report
December 16th, 2009

It’s an article of faith in Canadian economic circles that exports drive the national economy. Without them, the argument insists, we would languish as second-raters on the world stage, forever doomed to understudy the globe’s more driven headliners.

“… has International Monetary Fund propaganda made dupes of our policy wonks and politicians?”

Dupes?

More like partners in crime.

Just look at their bank accounts before and after leaving office.

When Her Majesty’s police selectively catch one in the act, they always end up getting paid out one way of the other (see Mulroney).

Would that the former employees of the international firms taking over and operating previously successful companies with funny money got the same. Lifelong workers had their retirements and positions slashed, while our representatives loaded up and made sure they were set - in the dead of night - behind everyone’s back.

Some of them say openly that they never lose the opportunity in a crisis - but it seems the opportunity for our business and political class has been to rob the public coffers blind and knife us in our backs.

Does this mean the Bermudans are going to stop threatening to pack up and move their operations?

With them owning every MLA in government, I guess that particular threat seems more like a charade with every passing year.

Still, those empty threats gave NB's kleptocrats their excuse to hand out loans, grants and free boilers at public expense. Now that this wharf takeover is complete, I wonder what the taxpayers of New Brunswick are going to end up spending and what the warped rationale will be?
