If New Brunswickers could keep ‘their representatives’ accountable to the common good – we wouldn’t be in such a financial and social mess to begin with.

With billions splurged over the years on boondoggle after secret boondoggle – NB’s collective (when the bill comes due) charge account is maxed out.

Credit raters and financiers who listed junk US mortgage bonds as AAA right up until the 2008 crash have told the NB people if they want to keep enjoying the plastic fruit of globalization down at the ‘ol Walmart, they’re just going to have to buck up and accept Greece-style austerity in the face of never ending paper debts.

The alternative: throwing off the flee-ridden blanket of ‘free-trade’ tyranny and fraudulent currencies that only benefit off-shore feudal lords will cause some major pains in the short- to medium term for our province. On the other hand, continuing to boil like stupid frogs in a caustic witch’s brew is no acceptable alternative.

So, Vive la Nouveau-Brunswick libre and cast out the vassal legislative servants of the oligarchs and international criminal syndicates at each and every opportunity (by election when possible, by torch-wielding mob when necessary).

Like many New Brunswickers, I’m having a hard time discerning the crucial differences between the Liberal and Progressive Conservative visions in 2010. In fact, their essential sameness, on most matters, is the eerie salience of this election.

Both parties are replete with honest, dedicated men and women who are stuck with an insupportable budget deficit of more than $750 million, an $8.5 billion long-term debt, and no coherent way out of the morass in which they find themselves.

Both parties genuinely want the best for the province’s communities, businesses and industries, but neither has even the foggiest notion about how to pay for its promises. Here, too, they are virtually indistinguishable.

Great piece, but I have a serious issue with the following:

Lord knows the NB electorate could use some evidence of virtue in their candidates, but except for the rare examples (i.e. Urquart kidney donation), the current crop certainly do not stand out as such.

When the two main parties started off the campaign wrangling about someone else’s pension, you knew it was going to turn into a back alley cat* fight of liars and miscreants.

Where is the honest PC or Liberal candidate who will stand up and admit that the underwater MLA pension vote was about as crooked as it gets? Atcon and the power selloff just to name two more scandals that were big enough to come to light are what we have to go by in judging the character of the kleptocratic hopeful.

They can smile and play nice or fight and play rough all day long, but it won’t begin to atone for sins they’ve yet to confess or apologize for to the public.

I'd think with only 13 viewers and an hidden identity, he or she would want as much attention as possible. As to what next - I say stop panicking first. There's an election coming up, and democracy has a time-tested way to deal with crisis. Choosing the right representation in the coming months will be crucial to each riding.

The PC party seems to be willing to man up in the face of this debacle - but it is not yet certain whether they can sweep the thing like the NB Tories of old. Reasonably speaking though, it's pretty well their race to lose at this point.

On the other hand, presuming Irving and Shawn Graham can't pull a few golden-plated rabbits out of a hat, a stable coalition of PCs with Greens or NDP would certainly be an interesting thing to watch.

Until then, look out for desperate measures from the Libs, and try as best to keep the next government in check from the beginning. Shutting them down after 3+ years of damage is almost too late, there were some pretty crazy laws passed in the early days of this administration.

The most recently 'cracked scandal' in the main stream media (doubling of pensions and severance for MLAs in secret, during a flood) was only one of many signs years ago that responsible governance in NB was under threat from inside collaborators.

The others include when NBers let Irving drop Lepreau's nuclear turbines in the ocean. Granted - this was smoothed by their newspapers and political puppets, who fail to point out the obvious and hide the truth with spin on a daily basis.

Speaking of offshored corporations, if you're concerned about your power rates going forward, demand the end to Bermudan subsidies today.

In the long run as citizens - stay strong, be conscious of the political dangers and don't wait to react so long the next time a similar stunt is pulled.

Responsible government means diddly when the 'governed' are asleep or don't care.

Like a chameleon the internet is always changing and shifting,which means the way we communicate is always changing too. Twelve years ago there was only a select group of people who controlled the content on the internet. Only those who could afford to hire a technology excerpt, trained in HTML coding, controlled the content on web. But that has drastically changed. Anybody who has access to the internet, now has access to a worldwide audience, if they know how to grab the attention of those people.

Don’t believe the hype – social media is still largely filled with corporate content (regurgitated mainly) that largely passes all the old media rules and fallacies, albeit in a different format. A few good sources exist, but the churnalism and PR industry still largely have the upper hand.

Just check out a serious topic, twittered by everyone from STU journalism profs to anti-power sale activists and new media operatives:

These people have their own independent blogs, more resources than they can shake a stick at, all the insider information and contacts in government.

Yet @bloggercharles, a Saint Johner who set up his tent on the legislature grounds back before people knew there was a crisis beats them 9 times out of 10 – providing illuminating and revolutionary content with a style and down-to-earth foresight one can write home about.

So yes, it is possible that social media can be used to raise awareness, but as before – one still has to sift through a lot of commercials and redundancy.

Professor of Irving journalism threatens litigation over NB Power critique

Those following the NB Power debate have surely seen the recent series of propaganda pieces released by Irving media written by STU journalism prof. Philip Lee. Titled "Balance of Power", they were advertised as a 'remarkable series of stories' that did not seek do not seek 'overtly or covertly, to influence this discourse one way or the other'. Well, the lead-in got one thing right - these are a remarkable series of stories - one which Mr. Lee seems unwilling to defend outside an Irving-controlled venue or a court of law, as you can see below.

First, I will expand on my criticism of Mr. Lee's work - if this falls under the category of 'slander' as he seems to allege - then free speech is dead.

The first article - "Down by the old mill stream" tells us that the crooked Hydro-Quebec/NB Power deal has been in the works since 1867. Then he mimes the government line about NB Power not being sold, despite the fact that all the major resources and transmission lines are effectively being turned over to Quebec. Masking the PR debacle this deal has become, he frames these problems in theatrical language, and then quickly moves back to the aww-shucks, misty eyed history of power generation in the picture province.

This first article spends a full 11 paragraphs describing in childish terms the production of electricity from water-flow, lulling the reader to sleep, priming them for the real sales job. This includes a comparison with this single 100+ year old dam to HQ's shinny new hydro system. Laughing at the puny 8 meter drop of NB's relic infrastructure, he seems enthralled that NB will soon be connected to HQ's massive 600 meter reserve. Every draw-back in NB's power-generating potential is hyped to the limit, while Quebec is made out to be a mecca of sustainable energy.

Finally, this leading piece subtly suggests that big industry will flock to New Brunswick's shores as the electricity prices goes down, throwing in some nostalgia for good measure of the cotton-mill workers that were outsourced long ago to child slave labor in third-world nations.

Part two, "How Quebec 'cornered' hydro power" spends the first four paragraphs linking HQ with the big-city sights and attractions of Montreal. This artificial confluence is artfully done, but is of little meaning to the nuts and bolts of electricity sales and generation. The impression of this article is to take small-town maritimers on a trip to the big city, and show them what they've supposedly been missing. Judging from the links on Mr. Lee's blog (9/10 in Ontario) - it seems this is a desire he holds keenly.

This article then skips quickly over the question of fraudulent carbon derivatives (a major selling point for the NB gov) to again marvel at the size and capacity of the HQ system. Somehow again, Mr. Lee soft-shoes around the capture of Newfoundland's Churchill falls energy project, noting only the genius of HQ's engineers in transporting the energy away (at a fraction of the real value). Similarly, the displacement of native Canadians from their land for the HQ project is sold as an example of diplomacy, rather than the continuation of subjugation and cultural genocide. The piece wraps up rather poorly, considering Mr. Lee's gift for words - with an incongruous call to history and certainty that the NB power swindle is as good as done.

Part three, entitled "From James Bay to New England" brings us to the northern reaches of the Quebec wilderness, where 'engineering marvels' produce power for consumers to the south. Mr. Lee spends his time there with a HQ scientist, who apparently has time to spend away from 'mitigating' the disastrous environmental damage of these behemoth dams to lead a starry-eyed reporter around the project. Mr. Lee really pulls out the stops, 'mitigating' the impact that toxic mercury has apparently had on the natives who missed out on their chance to leave for the big city. Speculating on the carbon-trapping benefits of hydro power, very short-shrift is given to the more noxious and potentially damaging emission of methane from decomposing vegetation beneath the head ponds.

Part four "What went wrong with New Brunswick's go-it-alone policy - and why" amounts to the quintessential attempt at 'influencing the discourse' of the NB Power sellout. Interviewing a retired, second-generation executive at the notoriously crony power company, Mr. Lee regurgitates a finely-tuned sales pitch for selling out the public utility. In an interview with Bill Marshall in the upstairs attic of his home, Mr. Lee can't help but set the scene '(Marshall) sipping coke with ice as the late afternoon sun dropped in the sky'. Spooky stuff, but no spookier than the dramatic picture we are given of NB Power's declining fortunes.

Skipping over how rainy-day funds were splurged on maintaining rates, bad debt decisions and NB Power's current susceptibility to market forces are put front and center for why the utility should be sold after 60 years of similar operations. This article then goes on to provide succor to Belledune and Coleson cove employees, maintaining that despite HQ's right to close the plants on a year's notice - they will be needed for the long term. Why hydro-Quebec would chose to 'pay our fuel bill' with all their cheap power is skimmed over. This supposedly non-political article then allows this retired-power executive turned energy consultant to say concerns that the plants will close are 'fear-mongering'.

My biggest critique of this article has to do with Mr. Marshall's potential conflicts of interest. Despite swallowing every line said - Mr. Lee says nothing about Mr. Marshall's current or potential clients should the plan go through, I find it hard to believe he is doing this province-wide sales pitch our of the goodness of his heart.. In his message to me below, Lee claims 'I explained my relationship to him in the story and my post on the blog' - yet the question of for whom Mr. Marshall works and his motives for speaking remain a total mystery.

Part five in this endless sales pitch comes back to the natives, and is appropriately titled - "How the Cree came to embrace big hydro". Standing in the office of the latest generation of first nations 'leaders', Mr. Lee takes us through a series of mental calisthenics to come around and see the Cree's 'compromise' as a good thing. While it is hard to pinpoint - one gets the impression that the Cree are a stand-in for New Brunswickers, and that our legal and financial problems in rejecting the deal will be similar if attempted again. Nowhere do you get the sense of empathy for the now landless Cree, or any disdain for the big business that was determined to flood their ancestral home.

While the series has certainly gone on long enough, I get the impression that Mr. Lee has not had his final word on the power sell-out, you can watch his blog for more articles here.

Subsequent to Mr. Lee's first posts, I commented once on the Irving's web site, and then posted a very brief critique on his blog. My comments about part one of the story and to his defensive post can be found here and here.

I subsequently received the following two emails from Mr. Lee, in which he first seems to ask for a civilized debate, and then threatens court action if I criticize him again. While I am still a little bit shocked about the sudden turnaround - I can imagine that emotions run high when you're busy selling out your community.

So, with my piece said - we shall see how far Mr. Lee is willing to go to stifle criticism and bar debate. His renewed alliance with the Bermudans and their tendencies to strong arm the public into silence (i.e. firing his former students for legitimate investigative journalism) is troubling. Indeed, it does not bode well for the future of journalism in the picture province when a journalism prof cannot see the forest of conflicts of interest for the trees (his own or anyone else promoting the sale).

Dan: I don't know you other than through your continued and persistent attacks on my integrity as a journalist. I will say this: It is a personal attack if it is not true, which in the case of Bill Marshall it is untrue. I explained my relationship to him in the story and my post on the blog. I will also tell you that never in my career as a journalist has anyone told me what to write. I'm not about to start now. I received an assignment to try to shed some light on the big picture with this electricity deal. I spent a number of weeks talking to a lot of people and reading a lot of material. The story I ended up with was mine. If you don't agree with my conclusions fine. But I would ask you to please stop questioning my integrity as a journalist. I understand that you oppose the deal, and I respect that. My stories are trying to shed light on the larger picture, not the political process. There's lots of commentary out there on that. It’s not a personal attack to say that Mr. Marshall is being paid to sell the deal, if that is the case, putting him into a conflict of interest.

It is journalistic misconduct, the sort often seen by co-opted Irving hacks and apparently approved of by your journalism school, to not put that disclaimer on top.

You had enough room to include it, don’t blame the commentators for filling things in.

The date of this beginning can be marked with certainty: Dec. 24, 1887. That's the day engineers at this dam generated electricity and ran a wire that turned on lights in homes at the end of Cotton Mill Road.

It’s a broad topic and I won’t cover it in detail today but I have been thinking lately that we need a new social contract between the business community and government. You will excuse me if I seem a bit incoherent but this is a work in progress in terms of my thinking.

I am in a pretty interesting position in that I get to interact with all sides - government, industry large and small, universities and NGOs in the Atlantic Canadian context and I see a widening gap between them and it is increasing friction.

I’d like the business community to come out strongly and say we don’t mind paying taxes - we realize that we need strong community and social infrastructure for us to have successful businesses so we do not mind paying taxes at all - as long as they are reasonably similar to other similar jursidictions.

I’d also like the business community to be more explicit about corporate social responsibility. A lot of big companies have CSR policies but I’d like to see it far more pervasive. Specific to New Brunswick, I’d like to see our companies (and many do) be far more engaged in broader community objectives. What is the point of having a wildly successful business if the community around it is crumbling?

Regarding Mr. Murphy's retirement - I think the more these crazed politicians find their senses and steer away from the Bermudan/bankster herd, the better for Neubraunschweig's chances. Stopping a robbery half-through is better than letting the thieves take it all; it'll also be harder to pull of future scams.

What would be really nice is if some of them would take a principled stand and not just mosey off as if they weren't co-conspirators in an ongoing heist. If selling NB Power is the last resort, show that you got the best price - prove that you've examined alternatives - stop working in dark rooms with the cameras turned off and make the process transparent.

Regarding the 'deal': Who is going to keep paying for the electricity and 'profits', regardless of which corporation holds the debt? Just like before -it'll be the NB public that'll keep paying for prior PPP piracy, the rate payers and taxed serfs who shoulder the burden. The pain keeps coming long after paid-for Premiers and party pimps have moved on - or for the capable ones, up a level, in the pyramid of political corruption.

In terms of public reaction, surely Bilderberg McKenna and his protégés can't be surprised that the rowdy people who rejected a massive toll-highway would rise up and reject an even more obvious form of economic sabotage in the selling of NB Power for 0 dollars.

Should the people be able to bring an end to this before the deed is done, it'll be just one battle won in the long march towards accountable and just representation. How long it'll take to undo all the shady tricks they have rigged is uncertain, but surely possible.

In terms of minutiae, whether this apparent defection by Mr. Murphy was forced or by choice is still of interest. Either way, let's all wish him the best as he enjoys his doubled pension and potential pay-offs from the 'private' sector as the public sector continues imploding.

No sense staying mad when it'll take all the political will and public involvement to turn around and fix the situation that we could possibly be mustered.

Once in a while I do work with corporations but almost always on economic development-related issues. I never felt it was right to talk about any of my clients here unless the work I did for them went into the public domain. I have talked about the importance of competitive energy costs as an economic development driver for five years and now people want to question my integrity and professional ethics because that belief dovetails with the interests of some very important companies in this province.

Jacques Poitras is threatening to reveal my clients and state that I am in a conflict of interest because I support the NB Power deal. I don’t usually talk about my clients on this blog - I let them publish any work that I do for them and I have no business discussing my client list in public.

But anyone who has read this blog knows I have worked for the NB Biz Council in the past - because they published my work for them - and I can tell you that I am doing some presentation work for them on energy and its importance to economic development. And I am glad to do so - it is consistent with my belief that this deal with Hydro-Quebec is supportive of economic development.

I have never been paid to write a column (other than the money I get paid to write columns) or write anything on this blog. I have spend hundreds of hours trying to stimulate a debate about economic development and never received a dime. Even the revenue from the advertisments on the right column of the blog go to the hosting company.

I stated clearly and will state again that the CBC has a right and should be covering the stories they are covering. But they should also be covering both sides of the deal and I will stick by that assertion no matter who threatens me.

The only feathering on your part I've seen is some occasional fluff in Irving's papers. It was still pretty good considering your constraints. On this power deal though, I'm not so sure.

Forgive me if I get the impression that the corporate / establishment leaning and funded NB bloggers (i.e. David Campbell, Philip Lee) are also playing the half-hearted approval / disinterested part rather poorly. If you're going to support the deal, do it with some heart - if it's really what you think, please try to convince us earnestly.

You used to seem pretty angry back in the day when tax rates were lowered for those who didn't need it, banks were bailed out while home 'owners' were turned under water - and the globalist corporations got everything they could ever want while the people get nothing (see repeated pledges for NB welfare reform). Is freezing your power rate temporarily really enough to get you on board for this?

Furthermore, you talk as if this NB Power give-away was right on the tip of everyone's tongue for years and you've thoroughly weighed the decision. I'd argue strongly that the former is untrue while the latter is impossible. The tendrils of a power company run through every part of our community and economy, the long-term ramifications of this sale are enormous.

My gut and head say this is a bad deal (and I'd give you a break if the opposite seemed true on your part), it was certainly conducted in the shadiest of manner. No public consultation occured prior to a signed 'MOU' (sounds like what cows do) to sell it all (just consider the massive stretches of land) to Quebec and the banksters.

Like throwing a baby (NB Power) out with the bathwater (fake fiat debt) - your argument is the baby is so messed up from a possessed ex-wife (NB Government) that we should hand it over to a white slaver (TD Bank/Quebec), who promise to take good care of it and cover most of your baby expenses.

I don't know about you, Alec - but I don't want my baby being a slave for the rest of its wretched life just to personally get out from under a difficult but entirely self-inflicted situation.

The pro-sell out crowd keep asking for alternatives - so here's one: How about we throw McKenna's bunch out and transfer our debts to the people's bank of New Brunswick?

We bail out our power plant with some funny money (maybe NFLD could help us out with initial reserves) and we lease the lines to Quebec and give Williams his corridor at the same time? Everyone is happy, except the banksters.

Seriously though, the only good argument I see for selling it now is that nobody could be worse at running it into the ground. The Irving puppets (of both parties) who have fiddled about while the dams were literally cracking certainly don't show any inclination to try and fix or even address the problems.

Lastly, that the notorious Bermudan-NB mafia dropped our new nuclear turbines in the ocean right before this bombshell announcement makes me certain there is little on the up and up with any of this story - it's a scam, pure and simple. It'll definitely be interesting to see what songs and dances go on before the people finally and firmly reject this shady deal.

Like aspartame in pop and fluoride in (some people's) water, once too many people get it, it's hard to take out without direct proof - too many people would need to assume liability, risk loses (financial, to the egos of experts) to expect institutional problem solving on this and other questionable substances that have been essentially forced on the general public (see derivatives and the myths of our financial bubbles for non-medical examples).

The absolute paucity of good evidence showing the safety of these older product for neurotoxicity should have alone been a major red flag, especially when being administered to vulnerable populations.

Whether it causes autism or not, let's stop injecting mercury and other proven-harmful substances into young children's blood streams as soon as possible.

Maybe before it gets banned for and more tightly controlled for environmental reasons (although that would be nice too)?

And goddesses, because the first benefit of polytheism is, as they say, diversity.

Luckily, the one thing the monstrous corpse-dump of human history has generated in profusion is weird, interesting gods. We may as well recycle the bastards, because they’re already paid for in blood, ignorance and misery. To address the last point, about eliminating state lines for ‘police agencies’ (which, as of a couple of months ago, officially includes 20,000+ Northcom soldiers):

What point is there to ‘integrating’ all the NAU police / military departments just to give some autocrat at the top a switch to turn on or off at the flick of a switch?

Ask General Howard how North American air defenses were turned off on 9/11 and why this has never been investigated? The one plane that was shot down that day came about not because of an integrated system, but because one pilot refused to go along with the stand-down orders and followed practical military procedures.

Advocating that a heirarchical, centralized system is better able to respond to threats in the future both denigrates the local responders / officials and sets us up for more unchallenged false-flag terrorism in the future.

As long as Nieuw Braunschweig citizens are more concerned about the hockey scores than what they're putting in their bodies (and permanently releasing into the environment) - nothing will happen. Fluoride zombies don't mind living in toxic waste zones!

That our children and grand-children will inherit the spoils of a lost, hyper-consumerist society via birth defect and increased disease is now more than certain. All this talk of new childhood disease of such mysterious origins when we knowingly truck the poisons into our box stores and sell them at whatever inflated price the bloated people will expend - look at BPA in the plastic drinking bottles - as if the effects weren't known.

We've been laughing at the Chinese feeding their children Melanine - as if we're acting any better, leaving uncapped uranium drill sites around - companies dumping straight into the river behind their paid-for shill politicians backs.

Whether the fake green movements now working with our newly bailed-out banksters to set up fake carbon credit schemes up in Montreal beat out the grass roots, honest-to-goodness environmental activists that tackle local issues on a proactive level is yet to be seen.

Personaly, I just want to have the right to be incensed when Granma gets tasered for trying to turn up the heat in her retirement 'home' cell. It doesn't seem right to do that if I ignore these uncivil actions by a government whose leaders are apparently trying their best to pretent uninvolvement with the Bermudans' crimes.

Fascism is a quirky thing - you can't expect it to be so obvious or straight forward. My questions was - what better way to bring it in but against the most hated company in Atlantica?

I'm just wondering who these new enviro-cops will hit up next, and unless its another Irving co. enterprise, military testing 'range' or a private faction of the power 'company' being stolen out from under us, I'll have major doubts as to their ultimate goals.

Just wait and see if you like - we'll be getting plenty of new policies ginned up by the same dudes who handed over cash to the banksters the first minute their perfect storm of a credit 'crisis' was unveiled.

They've already built a shiny new exchange in Montreal to sell fake carbon credits to deal with 'climate change' (formerly known as global warming).

You can bet the new 'special' family courts in New Braunschweig will be put to accelerated use as the patronage judges come online and the fiat debt slaves continue to lose what little in terms of economic security this Walmart-branded world has afforded.

When we're talking SPCA efficiency for a good chunk of the human population (a position most probably still scoff at), Irvings soon to be drawn-out court case over green liquor will seem utterly useless for anyone in the long run but lawyers, bankers and power-trip fiends.

Maybe a few more salmon will make it upriver each year due to toxin decreases but with a cracking dam still blocking the way - the net result will most likely be meaningless for the hungry mouths of the upcoming depression.

Remember, there are plenty of rivers in China or Russia who would be more than happy to take Irving's filth - and there are plenty of cops they could use on raiding pulp mills to stop it.

Sort of makes you wonder why Irving International doesn't make good on their threats to pull up stakes from the maritmes entirely. The brothers need to renounce their Canadian citizenships before they can fully inherit old KC's stuff anyway, right?

Maybe its because a police force that is willing to do swat-team raids with the specious rationale of stopping last-minute destruction of memos from a long-admitted incident is also more willing to raid a business that conflicts with party-member cronies (if Irving had any competition, they should be anticipating similar, if not worse treatment, as political favors are called in and the bagmen get to work).

Building this sort of state agency indicates that you are both willing to cross the line of normal civility, that you expect the people on the other side to do the same and that you plan on using the force for more than a few petty raids in the long term.

Like the war on drugs, public acceptance is gained by raiding a few big fish that have somehow fallen afoul of the system or its 'leadership'. Once the stranglehold is in place, police are shifted to operations meant to keep prices high, rather than shutting down or mitigating the use of truly dangerous substances.

To assume the rise of eco-coppers is a good 'change' for humanity ignores all the evidence from history regarding totalitarianism that we'd be advised to remember.

For instance, the government that took Germany into WWII were very big on environmentalism (and anti-smoking).

What should really gall us about this particular incident is that there are plenty of lawyers in government who should have been able to handle this without the whole black mask and machine gun routine, had they gone through the proper, decent and honest advocacy and defense of our communal rights and resources, as we (not their sponsers) enpowered them to do from the get-go.

Until honesty and not just made-for-tv forthrightness takes over from the kleptocratic system we've got in place, no NB or Federal agency can be trusted with the sort of power they've written themselves into laws that prove time and again their own disfunction.

Let them write a law that works to begin with first, not pile mounts of new macho B$ (raids, more courts, more cops) on top of an aleady jiggered, injust, and maldirected regulation practices.

Bermuda might be nice, but I don't see where 40 years of NB tax dollars absconding while de-industrialization, de-farming and de-individualizing our economy has done us much good.

I suppose it helps the big company in that they can terrorize the people into buying new boilers or restocking the banks with money at the first hint of 'recession'.

Which appears to equating behaviorism going out of fashion (via scientific development) with some of the churches in some of the countries relenting from hiding and surreptitiously moving pedophile priests around until they were hit with massive lawsuits.

That's the problem with faith, brother - it'll blind you if you let it - and in that state, your shepherd had better be leading you in the right direction.

(i.e. not towards Armageddon, not hiding massive social injustice, not abetting fiat rape, all of it)

Organized religion is to Jesus what Fox news is to Reality - both chose from it what they like, but the end products bear very little resemblance to the originals.

UFOs: The Secret History — David Cherniak’s feature-length documentary which airs on the History Channel will be my special guest at 11am on Monday on “Maritime Morning”.

It is interesting to see the range of approaches to the UFO phenomenon. UFOs have become something on a Rorschach/inkblot test, wherein people read into them what they themselves want to see; it is a projection.

In Medieval times, people saw religious “miracles”, and offered these visions as proof of God’s guiding hand.

There is a tremendous human vanity in the notion that we will never know everything, that the human spirit is ineffable; that the human spirit is too grand. Maybe it is.

But what if that human vanity of the spirit is false? Perhaps that is what scares us.

Unfortunately, the mechanisms for confirming whether individual UFO sightings are real or imagined, we’d need less restriction on what should be public data (i.e. open access to radar data).

It seems the government is too busy taping everyone’s phone (a true statement that would have seemed paranoid not so long ago) to look into it.

At the same time, we’ve spent a lot of time and money at the official level trying to see whether there is life on other planets - pretty strange if you ask me.
